For students and families who feel lost in the system
You should not have to figure school and college alone
RootEd Bridge connects you with people, not forms. We help with transcripts, transfer plans, financial aid, and the questions that do not fit on a handout. Plain language. No fee to ask.
Free. Human. No pressure to have it all figured out.
Where we are today
Counts come from our own records, not a marketing department. We update them as programs grow.
When it feels like chaos
We get the maze. Here is what we do.
Different websites say different things. The counselor is booked. You are not sure if you are behind or fine. That stress is real.
We are not your school, and we do not replace official advisors. We add time, plain answers, and follow through so the next step is something you can actually do this week.
Who started this
We built this because we needed it
Mustafa Kaya
Computer science student, College of San Mateo, California
He came to the U.S. without a clear map. No one explained how the system worked. He had to learn it piece by piece.
Transcripts, requirements, deadlines, financial aid. He made mistakes. He lost time. He figured it out anyway.
RootEd Bridge started from that process. Not from an idea, but from experience.
He believes no one should have to rely on luck, language, or connections to understand their own future.
Dilbirin Acar
Law student, University of Washington
He learned early that systems are not built equally for everyone. Especially when you are new, alone, or trying to navigate in a second language.
Forms, offices, policies. Nothing is simple when you do not already know how it works.
He had to read everything carefully. Ask questions others did not have to ask. Find clarity where there was none.
That same discipline now shapes his work. He focuses on fairness, access, and making complex systems understandable for people who are often left on their own.
How we help
What you actually get
Pick one place to start. We build from there.
Educational guidance
You get: plain English on requirements, a read of your transcript, and a few concrete next steps. Not a lecture.
College and transfer support
You get: deadlines on a calendar, a sane plan for community college to a four year school, and help with the parts of the app that always stall people.
Mentorship
You get: a regular person who answers texts, checks in, and remembers what you said last time. No performance. Just follow through.
Resource navigation
You get: a short list of what you might qualify for, aid, fee help, food, or rides, and how to apply before the date passes.
Community
You get: small groups, workshops, and a place to say the uncomfortable question out loud. It is never dumb.
Family support
You get: language parents can use with the school, a clearer picture of options, and fewer fights at the table about what to do next.
Who we serve
If you saw yourself in that list, you are in the right place
Immigrant students
Missing paper from back home, ESL, or parents who cannot cold call the front office in English. You are not behind. You are carrying more than a transcript shows.
First in your family to try college
FAFSA, EFC, units, remediation: words that only make sense after someone explains them once. We do that part without the shame spiral.
Underserved schools and places
Huge caseloads, one counselor, or no one who answers email. We work with the real limits, not a fantasy file.
Families in it together
IEP, 504, reclass, or the school said what. If the stress is in your kitchen, the work can start here with clear language and next steps for parents, not blame.
Why us
Trust is earned; you don't build it by being told you're trustworthy
- Community-ledVolunteers, partners, and families shape what we do. Not a deck from headquarters.
- Built from lived experienceThe people on this work have sat in the waiting room too, not only the podium.
- Free to get startedNo paywall to ask a question. If a program ever has a cost, we say it in plain type.
- No judgment, no pressureYou can show up mid panic or with a list. We start from what you are dealing with this week.
Vision
Help that reaches before someone gives up
We want a California where your ZIP code, first language, or family income does not decide whether there is a person on the other end of the line when you get stuck. More neighbors who know the steps. Simpler paths. That is the direction we work in.
RootEd Bridge is one piece. We are here to be useful, connect people, and stay honest about what we can and cannot do.
Get involved
Pick how you want to show up
A real person reads the inbox. You will get a human reply, not a ticket number.
Volunteer
Weekly or every other week. One student, or one workshop. We match you to something you can keep, not a hero arc you burn out on.

Money buys snack tables, ride shares to campus, test and app fees one family cannot cover, and paid time for the person who actually answers the email.
Fund something concrete →Partner with us
Schools, CBOs, faith groups, local leaders. If your people need clearer paths, we can align without duplicating what you already run.

Not sure we are a fit. Not sure you count. Not sure it is bad enough yet. Write anyway. We help people who are just stuck.

What we hear back
Words edited lightly for length. Some names and details are changed so people are not easy to look up. When we can publish with full names and real photos, we will ask first.
“From the first call I felt like someone was actually paying attention. They walked through my transcript with me, explained what mattered, and I left with a clear list of what to do next. Real help, not a lecture.”
“I needed the school to really hear us. They helped me find calm, clear wording and think through the conversation step by step. The front office got a message they could work with, and I felt supported.”
“Nursing school is all new terms and a fast pace. They took the time, answered my questions in detail, and we broke it into small steps. I left each time feeling like I had actually been helped.”
Start with one message
You do not need a perfect question. A real person will read it. We are not a bot, and we are not judging where you are starting from.
We read every message. If we are not the right place, we will try to point you somewhere that is.
FAQ
Straight answers
Students, families, and anyone in an underserved community in California who is working on school, college, transfer, or next steps. If you are not sure, write anyway. We will be straight if we are not a fit.

A few lines is enough. We read each note. In a crisis, call 988 or 911, or a local crisis line. We work on school and what comes after, not emergencies.
